Rutgers University Study Finds Alarm Systems Are a Valuable Crime Fighting Tool
This 2-year study by Rutgers University utilized five years of crime statistics provided by the Newark Police Department in Newark, NJ.
The study found that an installed burglar alarm system makes a home less attractive to the would-be intruder.
The study also concluded that home security burglar alarm systems have a deterrent effect against home burglaries in the community as a whole.
Also noted was that 'Technology Innovations' have increased the availability of home security alarm systems, by making them more affordable to middle-class homeowners, and that technology has made these systems more dependable.

Through The Eyes of a Burglar -
Study Provides Insights, Habits and Motivations
In this informative and fascinating study, over 400 convicted burglars were interviewed in order to determine what motivates them, and what deters them from burglarizing a specific property.
Some of the study's findings are as follows:
-
About 83 percent of convicted burglars said they would try to determine if a security alarm system was present before attempting a home or business burglary.
-
Of those, 60 percent would seek an alternative target if there was a burglar alarm system at the location.
-
50% who discovered the presence of a home security system during a burglary, would discontinue the burglary attempt, and another 31% said they would consider doing so.
-
Most burglars reported entering through open windows and doors or forcing windows or doors open.
